The Writing on the Wall

It appeared 3 days ago on the wall of Haaretz Building - an historic white-washed building located on our street, a few buildings from ours. There it was: black letters on white wall; the graffiti. It said:

NO CHILDREN
NO TERROR ATTACKS
GAZA 09

It was erased at the same day. Somebody painted it white again.

Today it appeared again. The writing. On the wall at the entrance to Daniel's school. This time it was written in red letters.

NO CHILDREN
NO TERROR ATTACKS
GAZA 09

I bought gray paint, the color of the wall, and painted it gray again.

A young woman who saw me painting the wall suggested it was actually good, the writing. "It forces us to see in what sort of a place we live". "Yes", I bitterly replied. "But what do we do with this knowledge? We look the other way".

Shame

I am deeply ashamed.  My country is led by a Prime Minister who lacks humanity. One with a sociopath streak. With a weak government that could not resist the madman in charge. With a media too ready to serve the roaming madman in his destruction spree, and with a public numb, from years of fighting, from the lies it's being told by the "drafted", one sided,  Israeli media. A public too ready to cheer the imaginary "defeat" of the enemy, while ignoring the immense suffering inflicted on the innocents.
I feel deeply ashamed and out of hope. Destruction and death will only lead to more destruction and death. The Jewish State is the real loser of this war. It has lost both its morals and its humanity.

War and peace

Chess

It is Saturday morning and Daniel is deeply saddened by his loss in a chess game. On the same evening the ground fighting in Gaza had begun. It is my first war here with a child. I'm wandering what to do. Considering  ways of escape.

Two glasses and a ray of light (at home, after a tasty lunch); it doesn't take much to make me happy.
